چکیده

The method of micro-arc oxidation has been utilized to synthesize a protective biocompatible coating for bioresorbable orthopedic Mg implant. This paper presents the results comprehensive research coatings based on diatomite—a biogenic material consisting shells diatom microalgae. main focus this study was functionalization diatomite-based by incorporating particles titania (TiO2) into them. Various properties resulting were examined and evaluated. XRD analysis revealed formation new magnesium orthosilicate phase—forsterite (Mg2SiO4). It established that corrosion current density decreased 1–2 orders magnitude after inclusion TiO2 particles, depending process voltage. adhesion strength increased following particle incorporation. processes dissolution both coated uncoated samples in sodium chloride solution studied. vitro cell viability assessed, which showed significantly reduced cytotoxicity samples.

Bioactive Glass Coatings for Orthopedic Metallic Implants

The objective of this work is to develop bioactive glass coatings for metallic orthopedic implants. A new family of glasses in the SiO2–Na2O–K2O–CaO–MgO–P2O5 system has been synthesized and characterized. The glass properties (thermal expansion, softening and transformation temperatures, density and hardness) are in line with the predictions of established empirical models. The optimized firing...

Functionalizing Orthopedic Implants with Silver Nanoparticles to Treat Infection

INTRODUCTION Implant-associated infection, although rare, has been one of main complications accompanied by orthopedic implant surgeries including prosthetic joint replacement and fracture fixation. The number of such infections has continuously increased with growing demands for surgical implantation due to population aging and increased participation in outdoor activities. The established inf...

n-SiO2 Embedded HA/TiO2 Composite Coatings Deposited on Pure Titanium Substrate by Micro-Arc Oxidation

As orthopaedic and dental metallic implant materials, titanium and titanium alloys are widely used due to their relatively low modulus, good fracture toughness, excellent strenthto-weight ration, and superior biocompatibility and corrosion resistance (Long and Rack, 1998). They have become the first choice above all other candidate metallic implant materials such as Co-Cr-Mo alloys, stainless s...

Influence of KMnO4 Concentrationon Infrared Emissivity of Coatings Formed on TC4 Alloys by Micro-Arc Oxidation

Ceramic coatings with high emissivity were fabricated on TC4 alloys by micro-arc oxidation technique (MAO) in mixed silicate and phosphate electrolytes with varying KMnO₄ addition. The microstructure, phase and chemical composition were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and the infrared emissivity of the MAO...

Micro-CT and histological analysis of Ti6Al7Nb custom made implants with hydroxyapatite and SiO2-TiO2 coatings in a rabbit model

BACKGROUND AND AIM Bone defect reconstruction in the maxillofacial area comes as a necessity after traumatic, oncological or congenital pathology. Custom made implant manufacturing, such as selective laser melting (SLM), is very helpful when bone reconstruction is needed. In the present study we assessed the osseointegration of custom made implants made of Ti6Al7Nb with two different coatings: ...
